Relics

Lisa Cox
When shuttles
Exploded
We all cried and
Mourned
And looked for
Answers
Because astronauts
Were heroes

Eventually
They canceled
The space shuttle
Program
No one had money
For space shuttle programs

When the satellites
Started to fall
No one
Worried
They had
Short life spans
No one
Could afford
To send up
Replacements

When space stations
Fell out of orbit
They were tourist
Attractions
Relics of a bygone
Era when
We could afford
To go past our
Blue sky
Into the dark
Of space

The stars
Tell our fortune
How close
How far
Can we reach,
How close
How far
Do we want
To reach?
