Dancing Alone

Lisa Cox
We move together
In choreographed
Mime
Never touching
All knowing the
Routine
There is grace
And sureness
As we move
From task to task
While we dance
We feel connected
Our place assured
By the place of the
Of the one before
The one after
Only the audience
Sees our loneliness
How we never touch
How we never vary
Our steps
What seemed perfectly
Choreographed revealed
As numbing routine
We are wrapped in
Tutus of loneliness
Dancing in solitude
In a troupe of lonely
Dancers all alone
Pretending we belong
Together
