Drowning

Lisa Cox

World in your
Turning moment
Drowning in conflict –
Past conflict that we
Thought were put out
Stubbornly flaring up
As egos fan their dying
Embers and new generations
Gasp for freedom’s air.
We teeter on inevitability
And the prospect
Of a bold new unknown
Future that terrifies
Those who find comfort
In old conflicts.
While one conflict simmers
Others boil over
And you, world continue
To turn on the suffering
Of refugees,
Of slaves,
Of the poor
While we wait for
Those with their
Fingers on the buttons
To make up their minds
To do nothing of
Substance.
Spin on, oh world
Our home,
And do not rest
Until all conflicts
Are resolved
And all suffering ceases.
