Janet Echelman is a contemporary artist who does large airy sculptural pieces around the world.  Last fall she created a temporary piece for an arts festival in Santa Monica, CA.  “The Space Between Us” consisted of large netting lit with changing lighting and people who attended were invited to shape the sand beneath.  There was also a soundtrack that changed with the lights.  Some of her works are more permanent and are indoor exhibits, while others are outdoors exhibits that will stay for weeks or months.  All of her works are ethereal and seem to float, and break free of the typical heavy sculptural model.  For more of her works visit her webpage or see my previous post on her work here http://wp.me/p2IaNZ-dC.

Spinning Our Web

Lisa Cox

We spin such delicate
Webs
When the alarm goes
Off to when we leave
Our door
When we turn right
To the stop at the light
The delicate art of
Finding that perfect
Space for the car
Weaving our way through
Throngs of others weaving
Their way
Avoiding oncoming traffic
Juggling the mocha
As the phone’s vibrations
Shake the web
Will it all break or
Will it hold our
Day together?
