Trying to Understand the Art of Defacement Part 6

I am still trying to understand the phenomena of art where the faces of the figures are defaced.  It is world wide, cuts across gender, and artists using a wide variety of mediums and styles deface their subjects.  I am looking at connections between these arts,  there connections to different art movements and styles, and any connections to world events.  Here is a sampling of some of the contemporary art that is typical of what I am talking about.
