In Lieu of the Storm

Lisa Cox

In lieu
Of the storm
I’ll take butterflies

Of butterflies
Orange winged
Swept by the wind
Lighter than rain drops

I know those butterfly
Have been waiting
Since I was five
For more

They do not get lost
Finding their way
Going home
So far

can be lost
In a blizzard
Of butterflies?
Just try

They live
As a glorious choir
Of color and whispering wings
No place on earth
Could be more home
No peace more
